2007-08 Results

The Canucks started 2007-08 with much the same lineup as the previous season. Over the offseason, they added a veterans Aaron Miller, Mike Weaver, Ryan Shannon and Brad Isbister. However, it was the Sedin twins, Markus Naslund, Trevor Linden and Taylor Pyatt that would lead the forwards most nights. The blueline was solid with Mattias Ohlund, Sami Salo, Willie Mitchell and Kevin Bieksa returning. Of course having Roberto Luongo in net made the team competitive every night. As the season progressed, Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows emerged as effective checkers that chipped in offensively. Youngsters, Alexander Edler and Mason Raymond also attracted some attention.

The team started slowly, posting a 5-7-0 record in October. In November, Roberto Luongo set a team record by recording three shutouts in a row (for a total shutout sequence of 212:12). Helped in part by Trevor Linden's amazing four shootout goals on five shots, the Canucks were an impressive ten games over .500 in early January. The usual January letdown was followed by a strong February and early March. Unfortunately, the Canucks ended the season on a sour note, losing 7 of their last 8 games and missing the playoffs.

After their last game of the season, the Flames stayed on the ice to shake Trevor Linden's hand. This was followed by an extended ovation and Linden skating around the ice waving to the fans. The game would also prove to be the last for Captain Markus Naslund, General Manager Dave Nonis, and, tragically, Luc Bourdon who would be killed during the summer.
