1995-96 Results

During the summer of 1996, Pat Quinn obtained the services of Alexander Mogilny, reuniting him with former linemate Pavel Bure. At the time, it seemed like a good deal. Fifteen games into the season, Pavel Bure went down with a knee injury that would keep him out of the lineup for the rest of the season. Mogilny became the game breaker, scoring 55 goals and adding 52 assists. Trevor Linden had his most productive season as a Canuck, recording 80 points. Martin Gelinas became a fan favourite with his consistent play and 30 goal season. Corey Hirsch and Kirk McLean shared the goaltending duties almost equally. By the end of the regular season, the Canucks finished three games below .500 which set up a date with the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs.

The Canucks and Avalanche split the first four games. Vancouver's Trevor Linden and Colorado's Joe Sakic each scored a hat-trick in the pivitol game five, but it was Sakic's overtime marker that won the game. The Avalanche won game six in Vancouver and went on to win the Stanley Cup.
