Vancouver Canucks vs. Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals joined the NHL for the 1974-75 season. In their early days, they were not a very good team and the Canucks dominated most of the games the teams played. By the mid-1980's, Washington had become a winning team and the Canucks had a tough time defeating them. Today, they only meet once or twice a season. The two teams have never met in the playoffs.

Historical Notes: The Capitals selected Larry Bolonchuk and Mike Lampman from the Canucks in their expansion draft ... Andre Boudrias was the first Canuck to score against the Capitals ... Ken Lockett was the first Canuck netminder to allow a goal on a penalty shot -- scored by Steve Atkinson (February 1, 1975) ... Richard Brodeur recorded his first shutout as a Canuck against the Capitals (October 28, 1981) ... Alex Auld recorded his first NHL shutout against the Capitals (March 23, 2003) ... The Canucks and Capitals did not meet in 2005-06.
