Vancouver Canucks vs. New York Rangers The New York Rangers were one of the "original six" teams when the Canucks joined the NHL in 1970-71. During most of the 1970s and 1980s, the Canucks had difficulty putting up wins against the Rangers. In the past two decades, the Canucks have fared significantly better. In 1994, the two teams met in the Stanley Cup Finals. The series went the full seven games before the Canucks lost in heartbreaking fashion. Historical Notes: Dale Tallon was the first Canuck to score against the Rangers ... The first multi-player trade the Canucks made saw Gary Doak and Jim Wiste go to the Rangers for Wayne Connelly, Dave Balon and Ron Stewart (November 16, 1971) ... The Canucks and Rangers once played a game without either team being assessed a penalty (March 13, 1976) ... The Canucks set a team record by firing 62 shots on goal (January 31, 1991) but it was not enough to save Bob McCammon's job -- he was fired after the game ... The Canucks set a team record by scoring five goals in one period of a playoff game (June 9, 1994) ... Todd Bertuzzi scored all three Canuck goals in a 3-1 win over the Rangers (March 19, 2002) ... The Canucks and Rangers did not meet in 2006-07. |
