Vancouver Canucks vs. New York Islanders

The New York Islanders joined the NHL for the 1972-73 season. In their early days, the Islanders were a lousy hockey team and the Canucks beat them (just like every other NHL team did). By the late 1970s, the Islanders were one of hockey's elite teams and they beat the Canucks regularly (just like they beat every other team). Since the mid-1980s, the two teams have been almost evenly matched. The Canucks and Islanders have met in the playoffs twice. As of 2015-16, the Islanders are the only team the Canucks have met in the playoffs and have yet to win a game against.

Historical Notes: The Islanders drafted John Schella and Ted Taylor from the Canucks in their expansion draft. Both players jumped to the WHA instead of joining the team ... Dave Balon was the first Canuck to score against the Islanders ... Of the four times the Islanders won the Stanley Cup, the only time they won it on the road came in 1982 (in Vancouver) ... Greg Adams and Cliff Ronning set a team record by scoring six seconds apart during a game against the Islanders (February 6, 1992) ... The Canucks and Islanders did not meet in 2006-07.
