Vancouver Canucks vs. Hartford Whalers

The Hartford Whalers joined the NHL along with three other teams from the WHA in 1979-80. The Canucks had a slight edge in wins in games with the Whalers, although the two teams were involved in many ties and overtime games. After the 1996-97 season, the Whalers moved out of Hartford and became the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canucks and Whalers never met in the playoffs.

Historical Notes: Don Lever was the first Canuck to score against the Whalers ... Patrik Sundstrom became the first Canuck to score a regular season overtime goal lifting the Canucks to a 5-4 win over the Whalers (October 28, 1983) ... Frank Caprice recorded his only NHL shutout against the Whalers (January 15, 1984), the same night Tony Tanti recorded his first hat trick as a Canuck ... Mike Sillinger was the last Canuck to score against the Whalers.
