Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers joined the NHL along with three other teams from the WHA in 1979-80. Right from the start, the Oilers gave the Canucks trouble and by the mid-1980s, they defeated the Canucks with relative ease. Since the 1990s, victories between the two teams have become more balanced. The two teams have met in the playoffs twice.

Historical Notes: Don Lever was the first Canuck to score against the Oilers ... Wayne Gretzky scored his first NHL goal against the Canucks (October 14, 1979) ... The Canucks played their first ever regular season overtime game against the Oilers, but no one scored in overtime (October 22, 1983) ... Edmonton once defeated the Canucks 13-0, setting all kinds of negative records (November 8, 1985) ... The Canucks once defeated the Oilers 9-0 (November 21, 1992) ... Brendan Morrison scored his first of nine career overtime goals against the Oilers (Febreary 17, 2001) ... The first shootout in Canuck history came against the Oilers (October 8, 2005) ... During 2007-08, the Canucks and Oilers went to a shootout in three consecutive games, Edmonton winning all three ... Daniel Sedin became the sixth player to record 200 career goals as a Canuck during a game in Edmonton (March 23, 2010).
