Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames When the Atlanta Flames moved to Calgary for the 1980-81 season, they retained the name "Flames". Since the 1981-82 season, Calgary and Vancouver have been in the same division and the two teams have become bitter rivals. Calgary has been a tough team for the Canucks to beat in their many meetings over the years, although the Canucks hold the edge in the last decade. The Canucks have met the Flames in the playoffs more often than any other team (seven times). Historical Notes: Bobby Schmautz was the first Canuck to score against Calgary ... The Canucks finally won their first playoff series against the Flames in 1982 ... Flame Eddie Beers was the first player to score a regular season overtime goal against the Canucks (October 30, 1983) ... Richard Brodeur recorded the first Canuck playoff shutout against the Flames (April 7, 1984) ... Petri Skriko once scored two short-handed goals on the same penalty against the Flames (November 18, 1986) ... The Canucks set a team record by scoring 6 goals in the first period (January 16, 1987) ... The Canucks set team playoff records for fastest two goals and fastest three goals against the Flames (April 13, 1989) ... Gino Odjick scored on a penalty shot against Mike Vernon (October 19, 1991) ... The Canucks recorded their most lop-sided victory against the Flames (11-0 on March 1, 1992) ... Markus Naslund recorded his first hat trick as a Canuck against Rick Tabaracci (April 13, 1996) ... Ryan Kesler scored his first NHL goal against the Calgary Flames (November 29, 2003) ... One of the longest game in Canuck history (102 minutes, 28 seconds) took place against the Flames (April 17, 2004) ... The Canucks have played more playoff games against the Flames than any other team (38 as of 2015-16). |
