Mehul (Mike) Shah -- Memories

I cannot believe that it will be ten years ago that Mehul passed away.  I spoke with him less than two weeks before and I still remember the conversation.

A couple of things struck me as I read his yearbook entries.  While he had truly believed that he was heading down the Engineering route, he did switch his major to Psychology.  In conversations with him around that time, I know he was happiest going this route.  Going to law school was something that he enjoyed.  I always admired him, as he knew the prognosis of his heart condition during his teens, but never did he let it stop him from leading a full and rewarding life.

His mom gave me an African wood carving of his that he had acquired during a trip to Kenya after he died.  He would speak of Africa and the plight of it's people.  He had always hoped to work in Africa as a diplomat and bring some light and awareness of the devastation of HIV back to Canada, in hopes that Canada could help.

I still see his mom & dad about twice a year and am in contact with his brother, Samir.  Samir is married and living in Ottawa; we see each other about once every two years.

Thanks for putting this site together!
Cheery regards,
Jennifer

Obituary forwarded to me by Christine Coll in November 2020.

Mehul (or Mike, as he later preferred to be known) Shah suffered from problems with his heart. He still managed to graduate from UBC and worked for the Canadian government in Europe. In June 2001, Mike's heart finally gave out and he was lost to his friends and colleagues.

If you have any additional thoughts, memories or information about Mehul's life or his passing, please .
